A new trend is emerging in the corporate world: “The evolution of corporate sustainability inside companies has shifted the conversation from the margins to the mainstream. The early conversations focused on regulatory compliance and then on “doing well by doing good” — aligning cost-saving measures with reputational benefits — and, more recently, with creating value by aligning sustainability with innovation.” (Source - 2013 six growing trends in corporate sustainability – Ernst & Young survey in cooperation with GreenBiz Group)

Below an excerpt from Peter Bakker, CEO, WBCSD: Cambridge Distinguished Lecture Series, 6 February 2013

Also, as described by Jane Nelson CPSL Senior and Director of the Harvard Kennedy School’s Corporate Social Responsibility Initiative: “Transformational or systemic change is necessary, and in it absence our shared prosperity and stability are at risk….The achievement of transformational change will be impossible without substantial innovation in business models, science and technology, financing mechanisms, market incentives and governance institutions. These will all require new types of business leadership, alongside political leadership.” (Source – Corporate Sustainability Leadership at the Edge, p.1)

ELIA has recently signed a MOU with the Mauritius Institute of Directors (MIoD), where the two organizations agreed to join their commitment and services for corporate sustainability leadership in Mauritius and the Indian Ocean Region.  ELIA supplies Corporate Sustainability trainings for MIoD under its Director Development Programme (DDP). ELIA designed and developed a new training manual for the course in 2014.

The MIoD‐ELIA consortium has been selected by GRI International to become an Accredited GRI Training Centre for GRI Sustainability Reporting in Mauritius, the Indian Ocean Region (Comoros, Madagascar and Seychelles), and Sub‐Saharan Africa (Angola, Botswana, Cameroun, DRC, Ethiopia, Ghana, Ivory Coast, Kenya, Mozambique, Namibia, Nigeria, Rwanda, Senegal, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia, Zimbabwe).

Furthermore, the Consortium is establishing a Sustainability Forum (the Mauritius Business Council for Sustainable Development – MBCSD) for Mauritius with support from the World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD). The WBCSD – a CEO‐led organization – has developed a Vision 2050 for how the private sector can support sustainable development over the 2050 time horizon. Vision 2050 is expected to be achieved through the implementation of rolling 10‐year action plans, and the first action plan is Action2020.
