Eco-Tips

INNER ECOLOGY

  • Remember that the nature of Life is that it is interrelated and interdependent; celebrate your relationships and include our natural world into your circle of relations.
  • Invest in your inner growth and development; ecological living begins within! Get clear about your connection with Life and the extent to which you are present to what is real within yourself, in your environment, and in your relationships. Then take outer actions in support of your inner actions.
  • Become ecologically literate and encourage your family/community to learn with you.
  • Spend time in Nature and learn about the natural environment in which you live.
  • Recycle your own energy – purify, renew and transmute the energy of your thoughts, feelings and creations. Dissolve from within you what no longer serves a healthy purpose and release your attachment to and involvement with what is unsustainable. Ecological living starts within by the way that you relate with energy; with Life inside yourself.
  • Include the wellbeing of the future generations in your decision-making. Don’t borrow from the future what cannot be given back.

OUTER ECOLOGY

  • Educate yourself about the resources that you and your family utilise to fulfill and sustain your needs. Then make informed and wise decision about what creates least negative impacts and can foster well-being for other members of our planet.
  • Consume less, recycle more, and be creative in finding multiple purposes for things that you would otherwise buy more of.
  • Be aware of the real price for goods and services that you use. Cheap products often have hidden costs (e.g. the cost of child-labour, animal cruelty, or degradation of ecosystems). Find out about any child-labour practices or natural resources that were sacrificed in the process of producing these products and services.
  • Recycle your grey-water.
  • Collect and use your rainwater.
  • Create an organic vegetable garden.
  • Compost your organic waste and use the compost in your garden.
  • Create a garden (with a balance of endemic/indigenous plants) to support local wildlife (animals, insects, trees and plants).
  • Create a roof garden (green roof) as a natural air-conditioning alternative and to increase your garden space.
  • Buy organic and local produces as much as possible.
  • Support local businesses and organisations that care for our planet.
